Sunneye Phillips is based in Los Angeles and works alongside Ekballo Pasadena, a mission school that trains and equips students to reach people around the world.  When Sunneye and the Ekballo students found out there were Afghan refugees moving to Los Angeles at the end of last year, they reached out to a resettlement agency to see how they could support them. They started building friendships with several refugee families that were all staying at the same hotel.  They have hosted picnics, beach days, ESL classes and a summer art camp over the last eight months.  The refugees have recently moved into their own apartments but continue to need support in ESL, finding jobs and knowing their way around LA. 

Sunneye’s goal is to set up an Afghan refugee ministry fund that would help pay for continued events for the refugees. These events create opportunities for these Afghans to know the love of Christ. As Sunneye and the Ekballo students build relationships with Afghan refugees, there are opportunities to pray for them and have conversations about faith. Some future events are a Christmas party, field trips, women’s teas, men’s BBQs, summer camps as well as weekly ESL classes. This fund could also help to pay for evangelistic resources as the refugees start to express interest in spiritual things.
