Is It Safe Here?

Thank you for stepping up with your prayers and support through this season of war in Ukraine. Our work with Ukrainian refugees arriving here in Romania has been non-stop.  Yesterday I left my house at 7:15 am and didn't return until 11:20 pm. Today is bright and sunny with blue skies and a nippy 30 degrees. It's moments like this, in the quiet of the day, that it's hard to comprehend that bombs are falling and people are dying just a day's drive away.

I was talking to a young Ukrainian refugee mom who is staying at a center where I serve and she said that when it all started they made a game for her 7-year-old son to sleep in the bathtub, as his room has large windows and they were afraid that a blast would shatter them.  After a few days, he was tired of the game and just wanted to sleep in his own bed. Then the family decided to send her and the boy out to safety, leaving her husband, sisters, and others behind.

She laughs as she shares about her goal to visit four countries in 2022...and now she is, but not as she had imagined. She grows more serious as she explains that every time they stop in a city, her son asks, "Mommy, is it safe here?" She assures him that it is while she is weighed down with the thought of how unsafe it is back home for their family.

Pray for these refugee mothers who are trying to be strong and positive for their children while carrying the burden of what's really going on with the families they left behind in Ukraine.

Pray for me and my GlobalGrace colleagues as we work with many different foundations, NGOs, and churches. We are pooling our resources so that we can meet urgent needs. We are taking food, water, medical supplies, blankets, diapers, and baby formula into Ukraine. For refugees arriving each day in our town, we are providing food, water, towels, sheet sets, and cleaning supplies. We are providing gift cards to give refugees so they can get supplies along the road as they travel to other countries and money towards their gas. We are distributing ‘minutes’ on Romanian SIM cards so the refugees can make calls and have data to stay in touch with family and watch the news. And we are providing school supplies for children so they don't fall behind in their studies.

Gas is abundant as we provide transport of supplies and refugees to and from the border... but the 10-hour round trip to the border is expensive as gas is almost $8 a gallon.

GlobalGrace has just launched a Ukraine Refugee Fund to help with the expenses of this ministry. This is one way for you to make an immediate difference in the lives of Ukrainian refugees.

THANK YOU for your PRAYERS and your GENEROSITY.
